Animal Series

Good morning friends, I hope you have all had a lovely and relaxing weekend.

To kick start Monday off  we explore the wonderful world of 'The Animal Print Shop'.
I am a little obsessed with these animal prints largely because they are perfect for nurseries and children's rooms and they are also great for adults! That's right, one for the grown ups today!

You may have seen these prints pop up on the blog in various images so today we look more closely at the dynamic photographer who has created these wonderfully simplistic prints.

Here is a little straight from their website:

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose is an online art gallery and store created by independant artist, Sharon Montrose together with her husband Spencer and operated with the help of their tight-knit team. Our fine art photographs feature Sharon's playful, yet sophisticated Animal Series, including her most beloved series, Little Darlings. We're committed to producing high quality art at an affordable price and our range of editions (both open and limited) offers options for various budgets. Sharon has taken great care in choosing paper stock and using the latest technology for digital capture and printingmethods to ensure her works come to life in a way that's well-crafted, archival, and beautiful.

The prints start at $25 and come in various sizes to suit your space and they ship internationally.

Please check out their website and their blog as they have loads of examples of how the prints have been used.

Just a little note: all images above have been sourced from The Animal Print Shop website.

Have a wonderful week.

little folk by zev photography

I am always a huge fan of up-and-coming teen talent and 14-year-old photographer Zev (aka fiddle oak) definitley set's the benchmark. The Natick, Massachusetts-based teen photographer's portfolio of work exhibits skills and talent well beyond his years.

Zev presents a magical and surreal world of self-portraits, which also overlap with his ongoing Little Folk series. Zev common theme throughout his works is to shrink himself down which then takes the viewer along a journey of rediscovering the world around us where blades of grass tower above him, a leaf is used an umbrella and feathers act as a para-glider throughout the skies. Zev's self-portraits also show how outstanding he capabilities are of producing such quality pictures at such a young age.

Gaining attention for his creative images matched by his youthful age, the adolescent photographer has already had the opportunity to collaborate with one of today's masters of surreal photography, Joel Robinson. Zev has proven to be one photographer to keep an eye on.

trouble! emil nystrom

Kids can be both a blessing and a burden… and when it comes to these impossible images, those facts are taken to the extreme. Up and coming photographer Emil Nystrom has only been working in the field for about a year… but you wouldn’t know it from these brilliant Photoshopped compositions featuring his lovely baby daughter. On the helpful side, we see her climbing under the hood to fix the car and lending a hand painting the walls of the house. Probably less helpful, she also seems to love doing cannon balls into the bathtub and hitching rides behind airplanes. Trouble!

The UmeĆ„, Sweden-based Nystrom uses deceptively simple methods for creating the adorable images of his daughter, in most cases simply getting an assistant (like mom) to hold her up for the shot. That’s because at the time of these photographs she hadn’t even learned to stand on her own. Nystrom then erases the supporting arms in the shot and ads other elements. The final images are admirable, and have garnered him attention, like an editors choice from 500px, photos featured in Practical Photoshop magazine and on Hasselblad’s website. Not bad for one year’s worth of work!

kodak moments - jason lee photography

Be prepared to view some of the most seriously adorable photo's I have ever seen taken by a very creative dad.

Jason Lee is a professional photographer specialising in weddings, portraits and commercial photography.

Jason has two adorable little girls, Kristin and Kayla, who in my opinion may just be the two most photogenic kids on the planet!

Jason puts his own stamp on everyday moments that we get to experience in our own childhood and Jason has said that his two daughters are a never-ending source of ideas.

What I love about these photo's is the story behind them. In 2006, Jason's mum was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The girls were always getting sick with colds and coughs so he could't always bring them to their grandma.  Jason wanted his mum to be able to see her granddaughters without catching any germs so he started a blog where his mum could see what was going on in their lives.

Keep up to date with the girls by following their blog:

what a spectacle! karen walker eyewear

I have always been mildly obsessed with editorial campaign photo-shoots. There is always a brilliantly choreographed brief that is always so creatively executed by the photographer, models and stylists. In this case, the models are all kids looking like they are trying on their parents glasses....to sum up, A-DOR-ABLE!

Here is a short interview with Karen Walker on Forever 2013 campaign:

LITTLE KIDS, BIG SPECS: Karen Walker’seyewear ads are consistently distinctive for their stark, minimalist portraiture and subversive campaign models. Case in point: for its first summer collection, the brand teamed with “Advanced Style” blogger Ari Seth Cohen and used women of a certain age — between 65 and 92, specifically — as its models. Now, for its second summer collection of eyewear, which launches internationally today, the brand has tapped a much younger set of faces, aged between 3 and 5.

“The campaign is about optimism and playfulness,” Walker told WWD. “The idea was always for [the collections] to be presented as bookends. The first campaign, that Ari [Seth Cohen] shot in New York, was based on eternal optimism — the bookend to that brings in the kids' open-eyed, playful point of view.”

The children — Claudia, Tyler, Elise and Alice-Rose, shot by photographer Derek Henderson — each model one of the four new styles (the Siouxsie, the Underground, the Rowdy and the Peek-a-boo). “You have to go with the flow with kids as they kind of do their own thing,” Walker said. “We didn't ask them to do anything specific, we wanted them just to be themselves — we were simply there to capture it.”

Inspired by a “cartoonish, toylike” sensibility, the collection features Walker’s signature exaggerated shapes and ranges from $330 to 350. It will launch on Sept. 5 at karenwalkereyewear.com and at stockists worldwide.

I definitely recommend checking out the Karen Walker website because if you really want to up the anti on the cuteness factor, the shots are displayed on the Karen Walker website alongside question and answers with the kids. The questions go a little something like this:

What do you want to do when you grow up? Be a model.

What’s your favourite animal? Zebras because they’re very stripy.

What’s your favourite colour? Pink and purple and gold and black and white and silver and grey and also blue and also purple.

Too cute!
